Bio
Originally from Trichy in India, Melvin moved away from his family/hometown 350 kilometres away to Chennai to further his cricket and studies. It wasn’t long until he moved up the ranks and was playing the top division in Chennai representative cricket with his deadly accurate and skilful fast bowling.
Melvin made his next move to keep challenging and bettering himself in 2023. He decided a transition to Ireland would give him the best opportunity at achieving a masters degree in International business management and taking his cricket to the next level in pursuit of his dream to one day be awarded a professional contract. In 2024, unbeknown to the Merrion Cricket Club who compete in Cricket Leinster’s top division in the premier league, they were about to see one of the most exciting talents arrive at their doorstep turning heads straight away with his skill and professionalism, dismissing batters with his acute line and length and challenging even some of the best batters defences in the country.
Starting in Merrion Cricket Club’s 2s, he very quickly banged the door down and made a statement with dominant performances in the 2nd grade. It wasn’t long before he found himself debuting in the 1st team and has never looked back since. Melvin amassed 53 wickets from 26 matches in season 2024 at Merrion and became the club’s strike bowler, consistently dismissing players who play international cricket and producing some devastating/match winning spells of high quality fast bowling.
By end of the season through shear weight of numbers he forced himself in the Cricket Ireland Inter Provincial set up debuting for Leinster Lighting in T20 and List A fixtures against the Northern Knights rubbing shoulders with the best cricketers in the Country. He quickly announced himself as a future prospect boasting figures on debut of 2-18 off off 4 overs and 3-30 off 6 overs. Cricket Ireland will be keeping a very close eye on Melvin’s progress throughout season 2025 as he is no doubt on their radar for when he qualifies as a permanent resident and Is eligible for international selection.
Melvin is currently looking at a stint in Australia where he wishes to continue challenging himself and continue his form in foreign conditions. Outside of the pitch, you will find himself hiking, travelling, working on his fitness and being the best version of himself he can possibly be. Any club should jump at the opportunity to be a part of Melvin’s magnificent journey to date where he will lead the bowling attack, pass on his knowledge and skill to his peers and set the standards with his preparation and passion for the game.
