*Joshua Joseph Jones: A Rising Star in Guyana’s Cricket Scene*

    *Early Life and Cricket Beginnings*

Born on October 11, 1999, in Suddie, Guyana, Joshua Joseph Jones’s passion for cricket was ignited at a young age. Growing up in the village of Queenstown on the Essequibo Coast, he honed his skills at the Queenstown nursery and primary schools. His early days on the cricket field revealed a natural talent that would eventually lead him to represent Guyana at the national level.

    *Nurturing Talent and National Representation*

Recognizing her son’s potential, Jones’s mother enrolled him in the N O C cricket club at the age of thirteen. This pivotal decision provided him with a structured environment to develop his skills and compete against talented players. Despite missing out on selection for the national under-15 team on two occasions, Jones remained dedicated to his craft.

His perseverance paid off when he was selected to represent Guyana at the under-17 intercounty trials in 2015 and 2016. His impressive performances at this level earned him a place in the Guyana national under-19 team in 2017 and 2018. During his final outing at the under-19 level, Jones’s standout performance, including the most wickets, was marred by the disappointment of reaching the age limit and missing out on the opportunity to compete in the under-19 World Cup.

*Military Service and Continued Cricket Success*

In 2019, Jones joined the Guyana Defence Force, where he continued to pursue his cricket career while serving in the sports department. His dedication to the game allowed him to balance his military duties with club cricket and continued representation at the senior intercounty level for Essequibo. In recent years, Jones has also participated in franchise cricket leagues like the Kares one T10, showcasing his versatility and ability to perform at the highest level.

As a rising star in Guyana’s cricket scene, Joshua Joseph Jones’s journey from a young village cricketer to a national representative is a testament to his talent, hard work, and unwavering passion for the game. With his continued dedication and impressive performances, Jones is poised to make a significant impact on Guyana’s cricket future.

Jones has recently been selected in the Essequibo inter-county squad for the GCB Super 50 competition, essentially trial matches for selection in the Guyana 50-over side. Jones is still in contention to fulfil his dream of professional cricket.

He’s a pacy, aggressive bowler on the field and with the bat in hand he can be very dangerous in the middle order. When Joshua hits the ball it tends to stay hit. Off the pitch he’s always striving for improvements and is exceptionally passionate about getting his opportunity in the UK. What club doesn’t want a match winner that bowls quick and gives the ball a frightful whack!
